Cristian Lopez – Skateboarder Interview
What’s your full name or nickname?
My name is Cristian P, but everyone calls me Chino.
When did you start skateboarding?
I started skateboarding when I was 6 years old with my neighborhood friends. We used to skate all day and build little ramps with whatever we could find.
Who or what inspired you to start skating?
My neighborhood really inspired me. Everyone had a board, and we motivated each other. Watching old skate videos also sparked something in me — the tricks, the style, the freedom.
What’s your favorite trick to do?
Definitely frontside flips. They feel super clean when you catch them just right.
What’s the hardest trick you’ve ever landed?
One of the hardest was a switch frontside heelflip down a stair set. It took a lot of tries and slams, but landing it made it all worth it.
Who is your favorite skateboarder of all time?
I’d say John Cardiel — smooth style, powerful tricks, big inspiration.
What’s your dream spot or park to skate?
MACBA in Barcelona. That place has so much history in skateboarding — smooth ground, perfect ledges, and a real skate culture.
Do you ride with a crew or have any sponsors?
Yeah, I skate with a local crew. We’ve been skating together for years. I’ve had a few local sponsors in the past, especially when I was skating more competitively.
What’s the worst injury you’ve gotten from skating?
Luckily, I’ve never broken a bone. I’ve had some bad slams and bruises for sure, but nothing major. I’ve been pretty lucky.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
Just enjoy it. Don’t rush. Fall, get back up, and repeat. That’s part of the journey. Focus on your style and progress at your own pace. The more fun you have, the better you’ll get.
